MJF’s power-building work invests in the leadership of Muslim women and working-class communities through collective care, organizing, advocacy, and movement-building. Our local work in the DC, MD, and VA region focuses on investing in working-class communities through leadership development, economic justice and healing justice. We accomplish this through running Muslim Women’s Organizing Institutes, learning cohorts, a Muslim Workers Network, a mutual aid fund, and healing justice circles. Our national work uses advocacy and coalition- building in order to push the Muslim Abolitionist Futures policy agenda calling for divestment from criminalization and investment into communities of care. Finally, MJF’s movement-building work is also focused on documenting and creating our stories and narratives.

  • Muslim Women’s Organizing Institute

The Muslim Women’s Organizing Institute is a leadership development and training cohort for individuals interested in organizing, community-building and advocacy.

  • Healing Justice Program and Movement Chaplaincy

MJF hosts a healing justice program that includes monthly virtual heal sessions with Chaplain Yasmin Yonis. In addition, we offer one-on-one free chaplaincy sessions for support.

  • Muslim Workers Network & Mutual Aid Fund

The Muslim Workers Network (MWN) provides a safe space for working-class Muslims to build community and collectively organize. MJF also houses a Muslim Workers Mutual Aid Fund that we began at the start of the beginning of the pandemic.

  • Advocacy and Civic Engagement

MJF’s Advocacy work includes making demands of policymakers that are rooted in community demands. Our civic engagement work builds political power in our communities through education on and engaging in the political process.

  • Movement-Building

The MAF Network, co-founded and co-anchored by Muslims for Just Futures, is a national collective of groups that hold a cross-movement network to abolish the War on Terror and move towards a vision of collective healing, safety, dignity, and freedom for our communities.

  • Movement Archives

In order to build narrative power and document our stories, MJF’s Movement Archives include oral histories with organizers, advocates, and community members on resistance and building community power. The Archives are a resource for community members to study resistance within our communities and continue building community power.

  • Mutual Aid Fund and Thriving Futures Guaranteed Income Program

Thriving Futures is the first small guaranteed income program in the country focused on working-class Muslim women who are heads of household. The program provides financial assistance and literacy, career services and coaching support, and community organizing training.
