MJF Statement
Today, the Supreme Court opened the door to one of the largest de-documentation efforts in modern U.S. history, placing the legal status of approximately 1.3 million TPS holders in jeopardy. By allowing this administration to move forward with stripping Temporary Protected Status from long-standing immigrant communities, the Court has empowered an unprecedented campaign of family separation, displacement, and state terror. This decision abandons America’s humanitarian commitments and tells millions of immigrants that the lives they have built, the families they have raised, and the communities they have strengthened can be erased at the stroke of a pen.
From its 2018 decision upholding the Muslim Ban to decisions that have weakened voting rights and democratic safeguards, today's ruling is another reminder that this Court continues to advance an anti-immigrant and authoritarian agenda that erodes checks and balances, undermines the rule of law, and denies justice. We condemn this decision and stand with every TPS holder, every immigrant family, and every community fighting to protect the promise that this country belongs to all who call it home.
