25 years: Understanding the Impacts of the War on Terror on Our People

This year marks 25 years of the War on Terror. In this anniversary year and beyond, we want to host listening sessions with our people to develop a collective community analysis of the past twenty-five years, and begin to envision what investing deeply into our communities could look like. These listening sessions are modeled on people’s movement assemblies, which come from a lineage of movements across the global south and the United States to practise governance - i.e. building analysis and plans of action together.

We can only do this at scale together - will you join us, and host these spaces?

This guide will help you be intentional about the goals you have for the event, the audience you are aiming for and can be adapted to your local organizing campaigns and context. This is designed as a day long assembly (4.5-5 hours, including breaks) - depending on your group, it may make sense to split it into two workshops.

The bottom of the guide has some specific event planning tips - responsibilities, roles and timelines before planning an in person or virtual community facing event.
